Source Information

Oná is one of the oldest coffee plantations in Guatemala. It is located in the department of San Marcos, in the bocacosta north of Coatepeque. Oná means "refuge of bees." The coffee is cultivated under shade (Inga), in a volcanic soil, on hillsides with wavy topography, between 2,500 and 4,000 feet above sea level. It is harvested from September to February and its processed carefully by hand. Oná produces high quality coffee, in harmony with nature and under strict environmental protection controls. Natural fertilizers are used and safe procedures are applied in the beneficiation, storage and transportation of the product. This has made Oná a creditor of the "EcoOK Seal", whose goal is to reduce the environmental impact and increase the social benefits of tropical agriculture through the conservation of the ecological environment.
